Connie was very attractive with her long wavy dark brown hair and shapely build. At twenty six years old she held a job in an insurance company's records division. Her job made her invaluable in checking out the records and backgrounds of prospective subjects. Connie had been Tina's partner from the beginning, almost five years ago, and their association had been very profitable for the two of them.

Jack had come into the picture only a year ago. He and Connie had met in a gym where they all worked out and when Connie learned he was a private investigator, and he was bisexual, the two girls slowly and carefully brought him into the business.

Prospects had been poor over the last few months and It was becoming urgent that they find someone soon. It wasn't that their customer, Mr Brevard, was impatient. He knew these things take time and Tina and her associates were very good at what they did. They had completed a number of very satisfying transactions over the past few years. Tina had no intention of ruining their track record with him.

"We're down to only these seven." Connie announced as she dropped into the big overstuffed chair, handing the folders to Tina. "The rest either have criminal records or are health risks."

Jack took his usual spot on the floor, he hated furniture. He had looked over the seven and he had three favorites. He hoped that one, at least, would fill the bill. But the decision was up to Tina and Connie, they had far more experience and insight than he did and he respected their judgment.

Tina spread the seven photos on the coffee table to study them. "Ok, they fit the economic, health and social profile but they don't all look the part."

Tina pulled the first photo from the line up and put it in front of her. Connie got up out of the chair and came around the coffee table to join Tina on the couch.

"Height's good, build is alright and the hair will do but the rest will need a lot of work."

Connie nodded, agreeing. "He'll be too expensive to makeover." Connie pushed the picture to the end of the table.

Tina drew the next picture in line toward them to study. "He's a little tall and his hair is too short. But his build is perfect. The rest will take hardly any work at all." Tina turned and looked at Connie. "What do you think?"

Connie was ready to pass him over. "He is sort of tall." She flipped the photo over and read the stats on the back. "He's almost 5' 9".

Connie was right, Tina decided. "Ok, I agree." The photo joined the other at the end of the table.

Jack was disappointed. That one was one of the ones he liked. He kept quiet.

"How about this one?" Connie drew the next candidate toward them. He's 5'6", a slight 145 pounds, narrow shoulders, nice face and beautiful brown hair."

"He does seem to have all the qualifications of Connie but he lives in Houston." Tina really liked this one except for the one complication.

"Shame." Connie looked long and hard at the picture of John. "Let's just put him aside for the moment."

Jack was glad they hadn't dismissed that one. Of the three he had picked, he was his favorite.

Tina agreed and they went on to the others. The next was just a little too husky. He looked too big boned. The fifth, a man named Timothy, seemed to fit all the criteria so he joined John in those to be carefully reviewed.

"He looks a little old." Thought Tina, scrutinizing the next photo.

"He's only 30." Said Connie. "But if you don't like him we can drop him." Connie had only left him in the running because the field had dwindled so far down.

"No, too old." Tina threw him on the 'no' pile.

"This is Brad, I saved him for last. He looks perfect." Connie held up the last picture, her favorite.

It was the last of Jack's choices.

"Ok then. Go ahead and do a detailed check on Timothy and Brad." Tina handed the two folders to Connie.

"What about John?" Asked Jack, looking very disappointed.

Tina looked at him and smiled. She saw how pitiful he looked. Laughing, she handed Connie the third folder. "Him too, for Jack. Poor thing looks heartbroken." Both the girls laughed and so did Jack.

Connie called Tina the following afternoon. "Bad news girl. Brad's engaged. He's getting married next month. He'd be missed."

"What about the others?" Tina was disappointed too.

"More bad news. Timothy was married and he's paying child support through the courts. His ex wife has had him hunted down twice for back support. He's too visible, sorry."

Tina didn't like this. They couldn't afford to go another month without any prospects. Mr Brevard was patient but for how long? "What about the guy in Houston? How did he check out?"

"He checked out clean. No ties of any kind. His mother and father have disowned him. No sisters, brothers or steady girlfriends. He's always lived alone. He just started a new job and he's actually got money in the bank. A nice plus for us."

He sounded too good to be true. "He's never been in any kind of trouble? No one's going to come looking for him?"

Connie laughed on the other end of the line. She checked off Tina's concerns, "Never been in trouble with the law. Maybe an old girlfriend or two, wanting to wring his neck. I spoke to his secretary and she painted a picture of him as a real asshole. Apparently he uses women then treats them like shit afterwards. He's been through almost every girl in his office, even the married ones."

That made Tina wonder. "Too much trouble to handle?"

"No, according to the woman he's never been violent, just cocky. She was more than willing to talk to me. She would like to see him castrated." Connie laughed at the thought.

Tina just smirked on her end. "Alright Connie. Let's get Jack on the next flight to Houston. Have him do the usual tail on the guy. Day and night, watch everything he does."

"That will be fine with Jack. He really likes this one." Connie was almost a little jealous but that would pass once they started on him. She actually enjoyed their little business, almost as much as Jack and Tina.

"That just leaves us the one problem. We have to relocate him." That bothered Tina a little.

It was Connie's turn to smirk. "We can do that, leave that part to me. You just pour it on like you always do. You haven't failed yet."

"You've got that right. See you tonight at the loft and we'll get things rolling." Tina hung up. She sat down on the couch with a pad and pencil. There were plans to be made. In the past, their candidates had all been local. This was going to be a little more complicated but from what Connie said, it could also be more profitable than some of their past ventures.

John was on the road now, almost constantly. When he came in from Atlanta on Wednesday night he was a little surprised to have a message from Tina. She had been on his mind often since he had written to her almost three weeks ago.

"Hello John," It began. "I've been thinking a lot about you since getting your letter. You sound like you're really nice. I'm anxious to see you when you get into town next week. Please call me when you get in. I really look forward to meeting you. Bye for now."

This was fantastic, John thought to himself. He wasn't due in Peoria until Monday morning. He had to go to Indianapolis in the morning and he'd wrap up there Friday afternoon. Maybe he would spend the weekend in Illinois.

"This guy really gets around." Jack dropped his report on Tina's coffee table. "I put in a lot of air miles this week."

"No sign of any ties that will give us trouble?" Asked Tina. She would scrutinize his report later.

"No, nothing. He does like to hit on the women, but no repeat performances." Jack was impatient about meeting him.

"Did the phone tap show anything?" Tina asked.

"Just business contacts and a call or two from women. There was one guy that called him twice about playing racket ball but our boy didn't call him back. He couldn't have been too close of a friend." Connie had been over the log carefully.

Tina turned back to Jack. "How about his apartment? Find anything unusual there?"

Jack shook his head. "Nothing out of the ordinary. He's definitely a loaner. I have all his account numbers and everything else we'll need to shut him down in Houston. Oh, and Connie was right. This guy saves his money. He's got over twenty thousand in assets."

Tina was thrilled. "That will go a long way to cover expenses."

"With quite a bit left over." Added Connie. "This one will be quite profitable."

"Hi Tina. This is John."

The call took Tina by surprise. "I didn't expect to hear from you until Monday."

"I decided to come in on the weekend instead. I hope I didn't call at an inconvenient time." John was hot to meet her.

"No, not at all." Tina had to think fast. She and the others had everything in place for Monday but they could move things up a few days. "Where are you staying?"

"I just checked into the Hilton. Are you free for dinner tonight?"

"I'll need to change some of my plans around. Can I call you back in a few minutes?" Tina actually had a date with Kevin that night, but she could cancel. He'd understand. Tina needed to get a hold of Connie and Jack right away.

"Sure. I'll be right here waiting for your call." John said happily.

As soon as Tina hung up from John, she called Connie. "He just called."

"I thought he wasn't due till Monday." Connie was a little flustered.

"He wasn't but that just means we got an early start." Tina's mind was racing through the details. "Is Jack with you?"

"No, but I can get hold of him. How do you want to handle this?" Connie settled down.

"I'll let him take me out to dinner then I'll get him to bring me to the loft."

"Can you handle him?"

"Sure. I still have some of the stuff we used on Brenda."

"Is it still good? That was five months ago."

"It's got a shelf life of six months. It should work fine."

"Alright but be careful. Jack and I will meet you there at midnight."

"Perfect. I'll see if I can get Doc to come out and get started on Saturday morning instead of Monday like we planned. At the very least, he can order me what we'll need to handle him until he can get over." Tina enjoyed working with Doc. He'd help her out, even on such short notice.

Connie reminded Tina, "There's not much I can do until Monday to start tying up the loose ends."

"That's alright, Monday's soon enough. I'm going to call him now and get ready. I'll see you both later." With that, Tina hung up.

"It's about six, why don't I meet you at seven thirty John." He couldn't pick her up at her apartment and she didn't have enough time to get to the loft first.

That sounded fine to him. "Great, but I'm going to have to ask you to pick the restaurant Tina since I don't know Peoria very well."

"That's alright. I'll pick a place where you won't lose your shirt over the bill." Tina had her own reasons for selecting the place she did. It had to do with not wanting to be too visible in public.

John wanted to play the big shot. "No, don't give money a thought. Let's go to a really nice place."

Tina had a place in mind that should please him and still make their dinner private. "I'll be out in front of the hotel at seven thirty. Look for my red LeBaron."

"See you then. Bye Tina."

He had been outside waiting only about five minutes when he saw the red LeBaron coming down the street and pulled up to the curb in front of the hotel. He had brought his new gray pinstripe suit and he was wearing his lucky cologne. It almost never failed him. In his jacket inside breast pocket were three Trogens he had just bought in the hotel gift shop. His breath smelled of mint Certs. John was ready.

She looked as good as her picture, sitting there smiling at him from her flashy red car. Long flowing golden blond hair framed soft delicate features. Big blue eyes stared at him. Deep red moist buds formed the words, "John?"

She was even more beautiful than he expected.

He wasn't a disappointment to Tina either. He was short and very slender. He didn't look 23, he looked younger, with his finely featured baby face. Tina had worried that he might have shorter hair than in his picture but his long thick brown hair was pulled back into a very neat ponytail.

"Hello Tina." John said confidently. He hadn't missed her admiring once over and her smile. He walked up to the car and knelt down. "It's great to finally meet you."

She was wearing her white mini dress. The one with the plunging neckline that exposed full voluptuous breasts. The bottom of her short dress was hiked up to her thighs.

He was as lecherous as she was led to believe, Tina thought to herself. Fine. This was going to make what they were going to do to him even more satisfying. "Climb in, we have reservations for dinner at eight."

John slid into the passenger seat without taking his eyes off her. He gave her his best smile while his mind raced ahead to what he hoped would be a very satisfying evening for him. From the look on her face and her attitude, it was very promising.

Tina took him to a little Italian restaurant that was frequented by those few patrons with discriminating taste and full wallets. The booths were private and they afforded diners the privacy they desired. Tracy had used this restaurant before.

John took the situation in hand and ordered for the both of them, without consulting Tina. He was accustomed to being in charge of any and all situations, especially with young women.

His small stature had always been an embarrassment to John and he had learned since he was young that he would have to be more forward, more outspoken than his larger classmates if he was going to be noticed. Some called it overcompensating for his size but that didn't bother John in the least. As he grew older, his attitude got him much further with girls than the bigger, huskier guys. In business, he had to carry it a step further. He had to be more aggressive than most and it was too bad for the man or woman whose feelings he might hurt in his efforts to get ahead.

He saw Tina as no different from any of the other dumb blond bimbos he had had in the past so why treat her any differently.

The wine was excellent but John was a little disappointed that Tina didn't drink more. It would make her more willing and pliable later.

Tina kept her head even though the guy kept her glass full. What he was trying to do was obvious and she wasn't about to lose control now. He was everything Connie had said he was.

He talked about himself constantly, in between trying to catch a feel under the table now and then. Tina let him get away with it, constantly smiling and laughing at his boring jokes. He was an obnoxious jerk.

Tina had long ago lost any guilt feelings for what she and the others did, sometime after their second or third contract with their associate, Mr Brevard. This one was going to be a pleasure. They would certainly teach him a lesson.

The meal had cost a small fortune. John didn't usually lay out this much for a date with anyone. He filled in the credit card slip for only about a 10% tip even though the service had been impeccable. John wasn't in the habit of wasting money.

As he slid the tray with his American Express card toward the edge of the table, for the waiter to pick up, Tina accidently spilled her drink and some of the wine landed in the small tray.

"Oh, I'm so clumsy. I'm sorry John, it must be the wine. I don't drink very often and I don't handle it well. Please forgive me." Tina played her part well.

Tina snatched the paperwork from the tray, as if to save it from getting any wetter than it already was. John didn't notice her action when she pulled off the bottom copy and sneaked it under the table, to her purse. She casually returned the top copy to the tray.

"The waiter appeared immediately. He quickly moped up the spill with a rag. He set the little tray to the side. "I'll redo this for you sir."

John didn't notice the slip was gone. He assumed it was under the check. The waiter assumed that the man took the bottom slip to avoid the possibility of being double charged. Tina had pulled it off perfectly.

Out on the street, John suggested that they go to a club and have a few drinks and dance.

"Oh, I don't know John. I feel a little light headed. Would you like to come back to my place? We could put on some music. Talk a little.?"

This was better than John could have hoped for. "Sure Tina, that sounds fine. I would like to get to know you better." It wasn't often he struck gold the first time out.

Tina parked her car in the downstairs garage of the large building.

"You live here?" John asked, looking up the side of the five story building.

She had brought him to the loft. "Yea, it's great. There's no one around at night to bother me and when I have parties, no one complains." Tina unlocked the large metal door. John pulled it open for her. "My place is on the third floor"

John looked up again just before he stepped through the door. He couldn't help but notice that the windows he could see all had bars on them. Odd, he thought, for the upper floors to have bars.

Tina led the way up the stairs, past the second floor, up to the third. His view from behind the shapely girl in her short, body hugging dress was pleasant. At the third floor landing she unlocked another very heavy metal door. When it closed behind them he noticed the combination lock set into the metal.

"This is the living room. It's great for entertaining." She wanted his attention away from the door and she was successful.

He didn't know what he expected after his look at the outside of the building but it wasn't this. John looked around the huge room. The living room was at least 40' wide by 50' or 60' long. Oak hardwood floors under a 9' ceiling. The furniture, overstuffed chairs, loveseats and couches set on ornate oriental throw rugs scattered sparsely around the room. A large formal walnut dining set filled the far end of the room. Beyond, through a wide doorway, was a large kitchen.

Two walls of the room were on the outside of the building. The windows were covered with heavy drapery but he could see white sheer drapes beneath the tan material that gave them privacy.

John was amazed at the size of the place. "This must cost you a fortune." The oil painting on the walls alone must be worth thousands, he thought to himself. "How do you afford all this?" Tina turned and smiled at him. "I have a little export business with a few friends."

John looked at her, dumfounded, as she walked toward the kitchen. She must be smarter than she acts.

"Make yourself comfortable John. I'll be back in a minute with a glass of wine for you. Pick out something to listen to if you like."

Tina pointed to the entertainment area built into the wall, then hurried into the kitchen, closing the cafe doors behind her.

John took off his jacket and tossed it across the back of one of the couches. Walking over to the stereo, he started looking through Tina's compact disc collection.
